JOB SUMMARY

LATCH is searching for a skilled Technical Lead to oversee a small, hands-on engineering team focused on architecting, deploying, and fine-tuning application traffic management (ATM) and load balancing solutions.

This hybrid role combines leadership responsibilities with deep technical involvement- perfect for someone who thrives on solving challenges while mentoring others. You’ll work with the program manager to set technical direction, support junior engineers’ growth, and drive the delivery of resilient, high-performance solutions aligned with a federal agency mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:  

  • Architect, implement, maintain ATM and F5 BIG-IP ADC solutions across cloud and on-prem environments
  • Lead integration efforts and optimize performance in hybrid and multi-cloud ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Mentor junior engineers on traffic engineering principles, load balancing (L4–L7), and building resilient application architectures
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning with scripting tools
  • Develop and update technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and GitLab repositories
  • Implement and manage backup procedures, certificate lifecycle automation, and active monitoring solutions
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for deployments and production issue resolution
  • Partner with development teams to refine traffic strategies and ensure scalable, high-performing services
TEAM LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
  • Supervise a small team of engineers with an emphasis on mentorship, shared learning, and collaborative problem-solving
  • Provide technical vision while empowering team members to lead key efforts
  • Balance strategic architectural oversight with hands-on engineering contributions
  • Assist with task prioritization, resource allocation, and team capability building
  • Promote a team culture grounded in transparency, curiosity, and continuous growth
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND SKILLS
  • Over 12 years of experience in IT, including 3–5 years in traffic engineering, network architecture, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology may substitute for up to four years of experience.
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing, high availability systems, and load balancing strategies
  • Proficient with F5 BIG-IP (LTM, WAF, iRules) and familiar with cloud-native load balancer technologies
  • Skilled in performance optimization and resolving complex application delivery issues
  • Experience scripting with Python, Bash, or PowerShell and a strong drive for automation
  • Proven track record of conducting peer reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and working across functions
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

It is desirable that the candidate has the following qualifications: 

  • Prior work with federal agencies, military environments, or other highly regulated sectors
  • Experience integrating CA Layer7, OAuth/SAML, or Okta for identity and access management

Prefer experience with:

  • Load Balancers / ADCs: F5 BIG-IP, Cloudflare
  • Monitoring & Performance: ThousandEyes, Riverbed, Catchpoint, SolarWinds, Wireshark
  • DDoS & Security: Cloudflare Magic Transit, Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower, Zscaler
  • Automation: Ansible, Terraform, Cisco NSO
  • Logging / Observability: Splunk

  • On call
  • 8 hour shift

  • Monday to Friday

SALARY RANGE

$155,000.00 – $160,000.00 per year
